Frequently Asked Questions

How does this website work?
This site is on Arweave. What this means is that the files (and your comments) are directly on the blockchain, and can viewed from any gateway around the world. It's amazing privacy, as the creator does not know if you viewed it or what gateway you used to comment.
Can I comment?
Yes, it requires an Arweave wallet and an AR coin to post replies. We have a swap site to get small amounts of Arweave with Monero, Bitcoin Lightning, or Litecoin.
Does Arweave have censorship?
It’s up to each individual node and/or gateway if they wish to continue to host the content. So Arweave does have censorship, but it's not up to an individual or single company to decide.
How does Arweave differ from Tor?
Tor hides locations. Arweave ends the concept of locations.

Tor Onions have to hide, because they keep the private key on their single server to function, this means if they are discovered, then they are immediately censored.

While as Arweave forces governments to do a take-down request to hundreds or thousands of nodes globally that transcend traditional borders.
How does Arweave improve privacy?
Normally with a website, you interact with the creator's server. With Arweave, you interact with whatever gateway you pick. So not only does the creator not see your IP address, but we don't even know if you looked at it or from what country.
What is Cloudflare?
If someone requests data from a computer, they might be physically far away from it, which slows it down to travel so far. Another problem is that an attacker can send many requests to overwhelm the computer and shut down the service. This is called DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service.

To solve both the speed and DDoS problems, many websites use what’s called a Content Delivery Network. And the most popular ones are Cloudflare, Amazon, and Google. With a CDN, the company has their computers all around the world, and they serve the websites on your behalf.

There are a number of negative effects of this including a huge loss of privacy, as Cloudflare is seeing all content, logging all the IP addresses with a trust score, browser fingerprinting, and breaking SSL encryption.

Instead of all that, Arweave has decentralized gateways all around the world. Not only does this offer amazing privacy for the end-viewer, but they also have more control over where and how to view content. In fact, you can even self-host someone else’s website with your own gateway.
How does our site differ from Odysee?
Odysee is a centralized website on Cloudflare, that masquerades as censorship resistance. It’s like wearing a condom while watching porn, and then claiming you’re not a virgin. The fact that their backend may store some data on Arweave is irrelevant if Odysee can completely censor users, and Cloudflare oversees all data. When users use Odysee, they don't need Arweave coins, pick gateways, or follow Arweave wallets or domains.

In sharp contrast, our website and design service empowers users to defy corrupt tyrannys and transcend physical locations. Only by actually interacting with the real protocol, can users get the full benefits of privacy and censorship resistance.
How much does it cost?
Please see the "how" section for how to comment or subscribe. To view videos is free. But to reply, posting a tiny amount of text to Arweave costs the equivalent of a penny if measured in US dollars. However, we require a one-time membership fee to combat spam and help defray the costs of video uploads. At this time, our fee is 1 AR, which is roughly $5.
How do I get my own website on Arweave?
Simplified Privacy offers a design service and an app (called ArWeb) to streamline this process. Please reach out. See This Link
Can my comments to your videos be blocked?
Yes, the website creator is the administrator of what content is allowed. Keep the conversation relevant, productive, and away from illegal content such as CSAM or drugs.
How do Arweave Domains work?
The ArNS domain is a subdomain on the gateway. So in this case, the domain "Shadow" is put before the gateway. For example the gateway "arweaveblock.com" in Germany, would be "shadow.arweaveblock.com"
